Acrylic is suitable for laser cutting and engraving, provided it doesn’t contain PVC in its composition. It’s available in a wide range of thicknesses, from 2 mm to 30 mm, and can be purchased from specialist plastic suppliers, signage shops, DIY stores and various online retailers.
Depending on the laser technology used, different types of acrylic can be chosen:
- OKU Desk diode laser: ideal for engraving and cutting opaque acrylic, except for white. For engraving, a coating is often required to mark the material effectively.
- CO2 laser of the Atheon series: more powerful machines that allow you to work with acrylic in all colours, including transparent ones. No coating is needed for engraving and, depending on the power, it can cut acrylic up to 20 mm thick.
