Streamline and optimise serial production through design pattern creation

When it comes to the serial production of corporate gifts and souvenirs, efficiency is paramount. Therefore, creating templates is a valuable preliminary practice to speed up and improve the process. In this case, we made a template to facilitate the placement and engraving process of these wooden pens (logo and website), ensuring a uniform and identical result across all products.

We created a custom design using a vector programme and the Atheon CO2 Laser for cutting the wood, stacking two layers to achieve the necessary thickness to securely hold the pens. For engraving precision, the template includes a reference point –not necessarily on the pens– or zero point, which allows the laser to be aligned for each batch, ensuring that all pieces are marked in the exact position.

As seen in the result, despite the slightly curved surface of the pens, the laser cutter and engraver effortlessly achieve the marking. Atheon CO2 Laser stands out for its speed and agility in serial production. For instance, in this project, engraving 18 pens only took four minutes, optimising time and responsiveness for large orders. 

Depending on the item to be personalised, the template can be simpler or more complex. For flat keyrings or aluminium cards, simply draw the shape of the object on the surface of a card or plywood. To prevent movement during engraving, they can be secured to the pattern with adhesive tape.

This type of tooling allows for quick and convenient series production with the Atheon CO2 Laser, a CNC machine focused on productivity and precise work.

This mobile phone holder is a promotional item, a bit more complex, requiring milling and engraving processes with two different machines.

We began by cutting all the pieces from a board with the Red fox 2 milling machine. Then, we utilised the Atheon CO2 Laser cutter and engraver for the logo and website engraving onto them.

By combining and complementing both tools, productivity and efficiency are exponentially improved. This enables us to tackle any project from scratch without the need for third parties, covering all aspects of digital fabrication.
