Course outline

1. Getting started

Installation, new job and its setup, file management.

2. 2D drawing and editing

Vectors and basic shapes; transform, align, edit and position.

3. Tools

Setting up and building the tool library.

4. Machining operations

From 2D toolpaths to 3D machining, with downloadable projects.

5. Toolpaths and post-processors

Including the Red Fox post-processor.

6. NomadPanel

Sending the job to the milling machine.

7. 3D modelling

Modelling tools, editing 3D objects and layers.

8. Vectric software and licences

Differences between VCarve, Aspire and the rest of the range.

9. Complete projects

Part cut by profiles, corporate sign, two-sided machining and 3D milling.

10. Practical exercises

Three assignments.

11. Extra

Calculating milling parameters and useful links.

Requirements

  • Knowledge: no previous CNC experience needed, but you should be comfortable using a computer.
  • Software: Vectric Aspire. The licence is not included; the course explains how to get it. Windows only.
  • Machine: the theory and job preparation can be followed without a machine; to mill you need a CNC milling machine.
