What materials does the Oku Desk cut and engrave?

It cuts and engraves wood, MDF, plywood, balsa, cardboard, foam board, paper, leather, fabrics, EVA foam, opaque acrylic and two-layer plastic. It engraves (without cutting) anodised aluminium, mirror, stone and ceramic. It is advisable to run tests: each batch of material reacts differently to the laser.

Why doesn't the Oku Desk cut metals?

It is a 455 nm blue diode laser with power equivalent to 20 W of CO₂, in the hobby/maker range for wood, opaque plastics and organic materials. On metals it only allows light engraving (for example, anodised aluminium), never cutting.

What is the working area of the Oku Desk?

A usable area of 475 × 270 mm, a working height of 50 mm and a precision of ±0.1 mm. A compact desktop machine with an anodised aluminium casing and a honeycomb base.

Does the Oku Desk work without a computer?

Yes. It is autonomous, with a built-in control panel and touchscreen: you save the jobs on a USB stick and launch them from the machine itself, without a connected PC.

What software does it use and how are designs prepared?

Designs are prepared in an adapted version of Inkscape (included, for Windows 7 and later and Mac OS X) and transferred via USB stick. It accepts vector and bitmap images in .svg, .dxf, .pdf, .ai, .png and .jpg.

How does the Oku Desk's diode laser differ from the CO2 laser of the Atheon machines?

The Oku Desk uses a blue diode laser, in the hobby/semi-professional range for personalised gifts and occasional marking. The Atheon machines are professional CO2 laser machines (40–130 W, areas up to 1300 × 900 mm) with autofocus, a Z axis and more power and materials, for production.

How is the laser focused?

The Oku Desk includes a focusing piece that lets you adjust the focus manually, very quickly and easily. It does not have autofocus or a motorised Z axis.

Does it need an air filter?

It is not essential to operate, especially in a well-ventilated room. The additional air filter system improves protection against the fumes and odours that some materials produce when cut or engraved.

Can it engrave cylindrical objects?

It can engrave small motifs on the surface (for example a logo), but not cover the entire cylindrical surface: there is no rotary accessory available for the Oku Desk.

Is the software free and included?

Yes. The Oku Desk includes the adapted version of Inkscape and you can download it for free from the downloads area to try it before receiving the machine.

What warranty does the Oku Desk have and can I finance it?

Legal warranty of 1 year, extendable to 3 years with the Nomad Care programme. In addition, it qualifies for flexible financing for companies and self-employed professionals ( Payment options ).

Turn any space into a versatile workshop with OKU Desk, the desktop engraver and cutter for crafts. Its powerful optimised diode laser engraves and cuts between 2-5 mm thick on a wide range of materials.

OKU Desk combines function and design, with an anodised aluminium body, a 475 × 270 mm working area, an intuitive touchscreen and easy-to-use software. It is a Plug & Play tool and requires no installation.

It is designed to be safe and, thanks to its safety sensor, only works when the protective screen is properly closed. It also features a fume extraction system that can be complemented with the optional air filter system.
