What is the Ion Plasma Basic and do I need a separate plasma unit?

It is a CNC cutting table that includes a Cevik inverter with a manual torch. It is a complete entry-level solution: you don't need to provide your own plasma equipment, it comes included, and you automate cutting with computer precision.

What metals and thicknesses does the Ion Plasma Basic cut?

It cuts steel, stainless steel, galvanised sheet, aluminium, copper, bronze, brass and tubular formats. With the included Cevik inverter and a three-phase 400 V supply it cuts up to 20 mm thick (absolute maximum), with 16 mm as the recommended maximum; on single-phase 230 V the maximum is somewhat lower.

Why doesn't it cut wood or plastic?

Plasma melts and expels the material with an electric arc, so it only works conductive materials (metal sheet). It is not designed for wood, plastic or other non-conductive materials.

What is the working area of the Ion Plasma Basic M?

A usable cutting area of 750 × 1100 mm (75 × 110 cm), with a working height of 80 mm and a positioning precision of ±0.1 mm.

What is the difference between the Ion Plasma Basic and the Pro?

Both include a water bed to reduce dross. The differences: the Pro is larger (1000 × 2000 mm versus 750 × 1100 mm), fits a higher-quality inverter and a vertical torch specific to CNC, with better cut quality, more endurance during long working days and consumables that last much longer. The Basic includes a Cevik inverter with an adapted manual torch, as an entry-level option.

How can the Ion Plasma Basic cut thicker material than the Pro?

The included Cevik inverter reaches 60 A when connected to a three-phase 400 V supply, and at that current it reaches the maximum thicknesses (up to 20 mm). Connected to single-phase 230 V it gives a maximum of 50 A and the same thicknesses as the 45 A GYS generator of the Ion Plasma Pro. The Pro's advantage is not in the maximum thickness, but in the cut quality, the endurance during long working days and the durability of its consumables.

What is the THC and how is it controlled?

The THC (dynamic torch height control) keeps the ideal cutting distance even on warped sheets. To manage it, specific G-codes are needed: generic software moves the X and Y axes but does not control the THC. That is why the Ion Plasma is operated with the version of Inkscape custom-made by NomadTech for the Ion Plasma series, which generates the correct G-code with THC control (available in the downloads area ).

What software does it use and is it free?

Designs are prepared in Inkscape (NomadTech version with the Ion Plasma plugin) and sent to the machine with the NomadPanel control software. It imports the most common formats (.dxf, .svg, .ai, .pdf, .png); for example, you can design in AutoCAD, export to .dxf and generate the G-code in Inkscape. All the software is free and available in the downloads area .

What warranty does it have and can I finance it?

Legal warranty of 1 year, extendable to 3 years with the Nomad Care programme. In addition, it qualifies for flexible financing for companies and self-employed professionals ( Payment options ).
