What is the machine firmware?
It is the software inside the machine: NomadPanelWeb, the control panel you open over Wi-Fi, and what drives its electronics. Updating it brings everything up to date at once.
Nothing is installed on your computer. The update is a package you download here and upload to the machine from its own panel.
It runs on the Red Fox 2 and the Fox Pro. The Red Fox and the Fox Lite don't use it: they are controlled with their own software (see Downloads for CNC routers).
-
My machine has v3.0.0 or later
Download the .npwfw2 package, the v3 update format: the machine verifies it before installing and, if anything fails, rolls back to the previous version on its own.
-
My machine has a 2.x version (v2.4.0 or later)
Download the .npwfw package: it takes the machine straight to the latest version from any version from v2.4.0 onwards. Later updates will use the .npwfw2.
-
My machine has a version older than v2.4.0
That version cannot be updated with these packages. Write to us and we'll help you bring it up to date.
Let me know when a new version is out
We'll send you an email with each new firmware version. Nothing else.
How to update the machine
Before you start
What you need
What you need
- The package for your version, downloaded to the computer, phone or tablet you will update from.
- That device connected to the machine's Wi-Fi network, with the panel open at 192.168.43.1 (or with the Android app).
- The machine's advanced access password. It comes with your machine's documentation; if you don't have it, ask Technical Support.
- Recommended: save a copy of the settings first, from the same screen where you upload the package.
Step by step
If your machine has v3.0.0 or later (.npwfw2 package)
If your machine has v3.0.0 or later (.npwfw2 package)
- In the panel, go to Settings → Advanced and enter the advanced access password.
- Go to System and press Upload a new update package.
- Choose the .npwfw2 file and confirm with Upload.
- The machine installs the package and restarts; this may take several minutes. The Wi-Fi connection drops: reconnect once it has started.
- Check in Settings → General → About that the version is the new one.
If your machine has a 2.x version (.npwfw package)
If your machine has a 2.x version (.npwfw package)
- In the panel, go to Settings → Administration and enter the password.
- In the Software section, press Upload a new update package.
- Choose the .npwfw file and confirm with Upload.
- The machine installs the package and restarts; this may take several minutes. The Wi-Fi connection drops: reconnect once it has started.
- Check that the version is the new one. From now on the machine is on v3, and future updates use the .npwfw2 package.
Important: do not switch the machine off during the update
Important: do not switch the machine off during the update
Neither with the button nor by unplugging it, even if it seems to be doing nothing: the restart can take several minutes.
If something goes wrong
Uploading the package shows “Incorrect password or software package corrupted”
Uploading the package shows “Incorrect password or software package corrupted”
It is almost always the wrong package: a machine on v3 needs the .npwfw2, and one on v2, the .npwfw. Check your version and download the right one.
If the package is the right one, the download may not have finished: download it again.
It shows “The package is not compatible with this machine”
It shows “The package is not compatible with this machine”
The installed version is too old for this package, or the package is older than the version you already have. Write to Technical Support.
After updating I can't reconnect
After updating I can't reconnect
Wait a few minutes for it to finish starting up and reconnect the device to the machine's Wi-Fi network. On v3, if the installation fails, the machine rolls back to the previous version on its own. If it still doesn't respond, contact Technical Support.

All machines
All machines
- Work during a pause: with the job paused you can move the machine, run commands and macros, probe, set zero or change tools. On resume, the machine returns to the cutting point by a safe path and the spindle gets back to speed. This also applies to program stops (M0 and manual tool change).
- Speed changes on the fly, without limits: feed and RPM are adjusted without stopping the machine, with programs of any size. The RPM multiplier goes up to x3.
- Macros: your own buttons, with name and colour, in the new Macros tab in Control. They are created and reordered by dragging in Settings, and ask for confirmation before running.
- USB controller (gamepad) to move the machine, with proportional control and stop on release.
- Redesigned interface, clearer and faster: new look, draggable DRO with coordinate system selector (G54 to G59.3), smoother and more precise jogging, multi-axis moves, custom logo and clear error messages.
- New non-blocking notifications, with history in Logs. Programs can show their own with (MSG, …) and (DEBUG, …).
- Phone and tablet: the panel opens in about 3 s and reconnects in half a second if the Wi-Fi drops.
- Search in the program editor (Ctrl+F), also on phones and in the Android app.
- Much faster heavy programs: a 36 MB 3D job goes from almost an hour to load to under half a minute. The 3D view uses less memory and colours by depth.
- Communication with the electronics more than twice as fast and without micro-stops: tested for 8 hours straight without errors.
- G-code more compatible with LinuxCNC: G28/G30 only move the axes given, inch programs work from start to finish and, when finished, the machine stays in the coordinate system it started with.
- More safety: emergency stop always visible, which also stops the spindle; dangerous actions locked while a job is running, and confirmation for sensitive actions. The machine stops on its own if the Wi-Fi is lost or the software stops responding.
- Electronics alerts: power board faults and processor temperature, with guidance in Diagnostics.
- A program with errors no longer starts: it is removed from the queue and the reason is explained.
- Settings reorganised into three access levels: General, Advanced and Service.
- Protected files: a program in the running queue cannot be edited or deleted, and nothing is overwritten without warning.
- New .npwfw2 update format for future versions: the package is verified before installing, it rolls back on its own if anything fails, and the electronics are updated with it.
- Boots in about 12 s (previously about 50 s), better protection against power cuts, and Wi-Fi with longer range and more stability.
- Axis tests in Advanced and demo mode (with homing and probing) for training and demonstrations.
- Many bug fixes.
Fox Pro
Fox Pro
- Improved external touch screen: the keyboard opens on its own when you tap a text field, as on a phone.
- Vacuum: the pump can switch on and off on its own with the queue, and each zone is controlled from the table plan.
- More reliable pneumatics, with the actual state of the valves in Diagnostics.
- Safer tool change, which no longer moves the zeros of other coordinate systems.
- Reliable camera, with a warning if it disconnects.
- The slave board and the power board are updated automatically with each update.
Red Fox 2
Red Fox 2
- Faster, more faithful laser image engraving: power changes at the exact point of each pixel, without micro-stops. On new Red Fox 2 machines, a photo at 0.05 mm and F8000 engraves almost three times faster.
- The laser turns off when pausing and returns to its power when resuming.
- Laser preview with each pass in the grey of its power; large LightBurn engravings are prepared in seconds.
- Configurable minimum laser power.
- Probe types: force probing, physical Z probe or your own probing program.
- Force probing no longer fails with the Z axis at its maximum height.
- On new Red Fox 2 machines, the slave board is updated automatically with each update.
